French natural parks
Grenoble and its area : French natural parks and regional natural parks.
The Ecrins national park, the Chartreuse regional park and the Vercors
regional natural park.
The Chartreuse range became A FRENCH REGIONAL NATURE PARK in 1995. This
new status was in recognition of its high quality natural and cultural
heritage.
The park promotes an economy wich conserves the environment and maintains
valuable traditional and agricultural skills within its borders.
All the evidence of the past, its cultural heritage and traditional
activities inherited from the Carthusians, buildings and passages linked
to the old frontier, can be discovered and better known throw the Park
structure.
Vercors regional natural park is a natural limestone citadel, extending
over 186 000 hectares between the Isère valley to the north and
the area around Die to the south. Seven natural sectors make up this unique
and magnificient area: Quatre Montagnes, Coulmes, Vercors Drômois,
Royans, Diois, Triève and Gervanne.
Situated between Gap, Grenoble and Briançon, The Ecrins National
Park is bounded by the Romanche river in the north, the Guisane and the
Durance on the East and the south, and by the Drac in the West.
