Grenoble museums
Outside Paris, Grenoble is the city in France that has the most to offer in museums and arts. In all there are over fifteen museums that deserve a
visit.
Musée de Grenoble has one of the finest collections
in Europe, particularly for modern and contemporary art.
The Museum of the French Revolution was opened in the Château
of Vizille near Grenoble in 1984 .
Grenoble museums : The museum is housed in the old Hôtel de Lesdiguières,
formerly used as Grenoble's city hall. Tracing the life of the famous author
of "Le Rouge et le Noir", the museum's 18th century salons contains portraits
of Stendhal, his family and friends, signed copies and first editions of
his works.
The Grenoble Art Gallery (Grenoble museums) is one of France’s
most prestigious outside Paris, for its collections of ancient art as well
as of modern and contemporary art: paintings by Perugino, Veronese, Strozzi,
Canaletto, Guardi, Rubens and Zurbaran are exhibited alongside a large
collection of works by French artists including Philippe de Champaigne,
Georges de la Tour, Claude Lorrain and Simon Vouet.
Situated right in the heart of Grenoble's ancient city centre, the museum
housed in the former bishop's palace traces the history of the Isère
region and its people from Prehistoric times up to the present.
